Remarquable ensemble, très complet de tirages photographiques sur la ville du Cap en Afrique du Sud et sur les villes voisines. Il est rare de trouver une telle multitude de vue sur une seule ville et sa banlieue. Les tirages sont en très bel état avec de beaux contrastes.
En tête de l’album, présence de 3 tirages collés entre eux formant un panoramique de la Ville du Cap.

Après des études d'art à Édimbourg et Paris, George Washington Wilson (GWW) retourne dans sa ville natale d'Aberdeen et devient alors le premier portraitiste écossais en photographiant notamment la reine Victoria en 1855. Son titre de « pionnier écossais de la photographie » est dû à son amélioration des techniques de prise de vue en extérieur. Il développera son entreprise en commercialisant des vues du monde entier. Notre album est un formidable condensé de vues dédiées au Cap.

Remarkable, very complete set of photographic prints on the city of Cape Town in South Africa and neighboring towns. It is rare to find such a multitude of views over a single city and its suburbs. The prints are in very good condition with beautiful contrasts.
At the top of the album, there are 3 prints stuck together forming a panoramic view of the City of Cape Town.
The rest of the album alternates between landscape views, precise views of the city of Cape Town, ships in the port, etc. A remarkable set of shots mixing the beauties of this city nestled between sea and mountains.

After studying art in Edinburgh and Paris, George Washington Wilson (GWW) returned to his hometown of Aberdeen and became the first Scottish portrait painter, notably photographing Queen Victoria in 1855. His title as "Scottish pioneer of photography » is due to his improvement in outdoor shooting techniques. He will grow his business by marketing views from all over the world. Our album is a wonderful summary of views dedicated to Cape Town.
